This fund is to improve well-being, inclusiveness and literacy for disadvantaged and vulnerable children attending Bass Coast College.

Set up through the generosity of Joan’s late brother John Eltringham, this fund will go on supporting children for generations to come, with your help.

Joan was passionate and highly respected teacher at what was Wonthaggi Secondary College for 29 years from 1979 – 2008 and worked mainly with children to improve literacy and inclusiveness. “She provided amazing intervention support, positively influencing the outcomes for many students over her very successful career”, said Darren Parker, Principal of Bass Coast College.

Every year the Bass Coast Community Foundation makes a grant to the Bass Coast College in memory of Joan Eltringham for programs that are not government funded and that improve well-being, inclusiveness and literacy for disadvantaged and vulnerable children attending any of the four Bass Coast College campuses.

The bigger the fund the more will be donated each year so please get behind this Fund and continue to build it through donations. Lots of little donations do add up.

And, women suffer greater and often different disadvantage to men especially in developing countries but also in Australia, and that disadvantage must be addressed. Women For Change is a collection of local women who use their collective resources and abilities to make positive changes. Women for Change is an effective way to connect with other like-minded people, learn more about issues in our community and pool funds for greater social impact.

Please consider giving time and join the working group that is Women for Change. Email info [at] bccf.org.au to express your interest.

Building a Stronger Bass Coast

COVID-19 has impacted residents in many and significant ways. Times are tough and getting tougher for many within the Bass Coast.

A research study undertaken by id.com has highlighted over 1,500 Bass Coast Shire residents lost jobs in the March-September 2020 period, and only 20% are expected to be re-employed by September 2021. Housing stress including a lack of housing, affordability and quality is a significant issue across the region.

Young residents (aged 18-24 years) and females are the most financially vulnerable groups in Bass Coast Shire and are experiencing further declining levels of financial wellbeing. Focus on reaching, communicating, investing and influencing financial wellbeing for these residents is a priority.

The Foundation actively seeks to raise funds and distribute 100% of these funds to programs and organisations assisting the most marginalised residents across Bass Coast Shire.

Your donation will support us to reinvigorate our community, now and into the future.

Local identity (the late) Vivian Reith and her family have established the Vivian Docking Reith Fund.

The fund establishes a legacy that reflects Viv’s approach to “family”.  For her, it has never ended with just the bloodlines but goes far beyond. Her empathetic and practical support has resulted in her wisdom, laughter and love touching many families.

Viv had a long career in early childhood development, graduating as dux of the Victorian  Kindergarten Teacher’s College in the 1930’s. She then worked in kindergarten services and with children with disabilities.

The Vivian Docking Reith Fund administered by the Bass Coast Foundation has been set up to help young families get opportunities they may not have otherwise been able to access. A particular focus on granting from this fund is towards early childhood education and to support girls and women achieve their goals.

Viv says: “I was keen to participate and partner with the Bass Coast Community Foundation as I understand the power of someone taking an interest –  it can often turn people’s lives around when they know someone believes in them.”

If you would like to contribute to this fund you can make a donation indicating that it is to support the Vivian Docking Reith Fund.  All donations are tax deductible. Email us to request a receipt once you have made a donation to the fund.
