Newhaven Primary Students Put Their Projects on Show.
The pride on the faces of Grade Five and Six students at Newhaven Primary School was clear to see, even if restrictions meant their Kids as Catalysts final presentation couldn’t be done with a live audience this week.
Grade 6 student Harvey, who spoke to ABC Gippsland Radio said he was absolutely thrilled with the project.
“Anyone can do anything if they put enough effort into it. And it’s good to help people even if you haven’t been helped. You might feel gratitude and feel good to know how other people feel after your actions,” he said.
Student groups presented the project they’ve been working on as part of the program with their local community groups – in areas including support for older people, cultural inclusion, gender equality, improving the environment, giving kids a voice, protecting wildlife and disability advocacy.
School principal Sharyne Munday said students have had an undergone significant change since commencing the program in Term Two.
“We can believe in our kids and they can do what they want to do,” Ms Munday said.
With Kids as Catalysts, the Foundation is working on securing the wider roll out of the program across schools in the region from 2022.
Watch this presentation of the journey for these children. It will make you smile and brighten your day!
